A Cultural Perspective: The Best of the Best like to Hang with the Best of the Best …
We had the honor of interviewing Phil Norman, Chief People Officer of Canyon Ranch. Since 1979, Canyon Ranch is one of the world’s recognized leaders in healthy living and luxury spa vacations, with destination spa resorts and day facilities on land and at sea. For folks not familiar with this great organization, it delivers its signature wellness brands and experience. In the past, drew the likes and praises of celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey.
It’s one thing to open and get to the top in your industry, and another thing to stay there. To support their long-term sustainability, Phil and company built a culture of loyalty on the client and employee side. As of today, Phil’s organization has 2000 employees with employee tenure averaging 7.6 years. Soon, because of its expansion to the Aegean Sea in Turkey, it will employ an additional 400 international employees, having a leadership team that spans the globe.
This begs the question, how does Phil and his senior executive team continue to improve and expand their products, services and experiences while safeguarding their positive culture? Here’s a short snippet of what Phil had to say:
- The senior executive team continually embraces culture as an integral part of their strategy.
- Every member of their senior executive team consistently walks their properties, engaging with employees and clients alike.
- The organization continually invests in improving recruiting and hiring processes, along with a corporate-wide initiative of workforce development in both hard and soft skills.
- They developed the right methodology to execute a reward system to drive the right growth and improvements that impact the organization, their teams and their clients.
To take advantage of Phil’s wisdom listen to his entire interview. Listen carefully to his wisdom when he says … ‘development investment dollars are far less inconsequential when you start with the right thinking, alignment of the organization, and execution of world-class service.’
I couldn’t have said that better myself! LISTEN HERE!
